“Nature holds the key to our aesthetic, intellectual, cognitive and even spiritual satisfaction.” — E. O. Wilson
Consciously noticing the world around you through what you see, hear or feel through touch, can help bring you back to the present.
Imagine having the sand like this in front of you, notice how smooth the grain is, how does it feel when you touch it, what kind of trail it cretes when you draw on it with your fingers/hands, what kind of sound you hear when your hands/fingers move through the sand, if you grab the sand and let it go, which direction does it flows to and what kind of sound you hear.
This is one of the mindful activities that you and your family can practice together when visiting the beach next time, or at home using your imagination or playing with moon sand or kinetic sand.
Research shows that practicing mindfulness with children supports increased focus, decreased stress and anxiety, and positive prosocial behavior. It can also be a great way to connect with your child and find a moment of tranquility together in an otherwise hectic day.
Everyday is a good day to be present and create joyful moments to be cherished for a lifetime together. Happy connecting!
